The impact of the cost of living on employee stress is a widely discussed issue among HR professionals, particularly those focused on enhancing staff retention and productivity.
Darren Laverty, financial wellbeing strategist at Secondsight, said financial worries were “one of the biggest drivers of anxiety and poor mental health” and were often “invisible”.
When asked what would make them happier, 41 per cent said higher wages or financial stability. When considering top policy areas, young people highlighted affordable housing (38 per cent), more investment in the NHS (36 per cent) and lower taxes for low earners (29 per cent) as important.
“When people feel financially stressed, it affects their mood, concentration, performance and decision making,” he warned. “HR teams cannot afford to ignore this, especially when the issue continues to grow.”
